New Statesman 2006

Clive Stafford Smith is a lawyer, Director of the organization, ‘Reprieve’, and author of several books, including ‘Injustice: Life and Death in the Courtrooms of America’. He is an experienced Death Row lawyer.

In 2006 Stafford Smith wrote this article about Willie, which appeared in ‘The New Statesman’ magazine and is on the Reprieve website. It describes one legal decision that was particularly harrowing for Willie, while also giving some idea of the extreme stress of going through appeal after appeal with implications for life or death.
